History

Origin and Development of Swami Vipulananda Children's Development Centre

    The Institute was started in 1986 under the guidance of the Batticaloa Ramakrishna Mission and the Batticaloa Hindu Youth Association. This forum was formed due to the fact that the trends towards ethnic liberation among the people of Alayadivembu region have evolved among the youth and the youth do not show importance to the religious and social values. Religious values should be promoted through the temples In order to meet this requirement Mr.T.Kailayapillai (President), Mr.V.Kunalan Principal ( Secretary) , Mr.K.Kamalanathan Sir (Treasurer), Dr.M.Thevarajan,Dr.V.Thayanantha Raja, Poet.N.Manivasagan,Mr.R.Nadaraja (Chairman of Pradhesha Sabha), Mr.P.Tharmenthiran ( superinant of survey), Mr.S.Balasuntharam (Social Worker),  Mr.K.Somasuntharam , Mr.V.Santhirasegaram (Principal) ,Saivapulavar.Mr.S.Saamithambi, Mr.Sarkunanathan (Business man) joined us as board of directors. 1987.03.27 This day can be considered as a golden day in the history of Alayadivembu Division Akkaraipattu.

1st phase

  • Arrangements have been made to offer communal prayers and good thoughts in the temples.
  • The Vivekananda festivals went very well and book fairs were also organized every year in schools under the auspices of the Ramakrishna mission to spread Vivekananda’s noble messages.
  • A group of citizens was formed to rescue the youth who were caught in circuit networks and talks were held with the army.
  • Also, the forum improved the people’s economic security, habitat security and town security in collaboration with the army.
  • With the help of Ramakrishna Mission, the shelter was also provided to the poor families who lost more than two young people.
  • Also during ethnic riots and natural disasters, the Ramakrishna mission and charitable organizations provided assistance to those affected.
  • Livelihood assistance was also provided with Ramakrishna’s help to those in need.
  • Help was also given to the poor who had no money to go to Pusa prison to see their children.
  • This work was carried out from 1986 to 1990.

 

Since 1990

The years 1990-1991 were probably the worst period. At that time, there was a direct war between the army and the militants.

For this reason, services were reduced, but emergency services were provided.

  1. Food and dry rations were provided to people living in the camps until they were exhausted.
  2. On several occasions, these subsidies were granted with the help of the RKM.
  3. Talks were held with the army on several occasions.
  4. Once again, a citizens committee has been set up.
  5.  Since social security was also assured, people began to come to their homes.
  6. Preschool enrolment

1992-1995

    It was decided to create a children’s home called Orphanage Vipulananda within the army to protect orphaned children from abandonment and unprotection by the army. The children home was inaugurated on 29.04.1992.
    1. The Sri Siddhi Vinayagar temple provided a site for building a children home.
    2. It has been approved by RKM.
    3. The military provided assistance and support. (He assured us that they would not disturb the freedom fighters.)
    4. The community elders were ready to help.
    5. Batticaloa YMHA Forum, Ministry of Hindu Culture and some foreign organizations, Temples, Members of Parliament expressed their support and greetings.
    1. Minister of Rehabilitation Hon. Mr.A.R. Ashraf helped to build 140×20 on two occasions on the recommendation by Hon. Mr. A.L.M.Adhaullah.
    2. The Ministry of Probation department registerd our orphanage as children’s home and gave dimension grants.
    3. K.M introduced organizations that could help for our children’s home.
    4. M.H.A helped to build the circular wall.
    5. Aquifer was donated by R.K.M.
    6. SIDA organization provided furniture, kitchen utensils and musical instruments.
    7. Mr.Thivya Nathan MP contributed fund to renovate the shrine room.
    8. P.Arunakula Singam gave support to built shrine room.
    9. M. Devarajan established a kitchen.
    10. A large well was built by Saiva Pulavar Samithambi Sir.
    11. A. Devarajan,DR. P. Dayananda Raja, Mr.P. Dharmendran( Land Inspector) , Mr.M. Balasundaram JP, Mr.M. A. Nataraja JP, Mr.Senthur Raja joined as fathers of 6 children.
    1. Akkaraipattu STF brought utensils for the children and filled soil around the children’s home.
    2. An outdoor terrace and a well were built by Sarvodayam organization.

1996-1998

  1. Tamil Orphan Trust provided carpentry materials.
  2. Telephone installation was provided by Swami Thinthiradeva.
  3. Mrs. Nirmala Vijayakumar was donated food for our children.
  4. Food donation by BUDS.
  5. The front entrance and main building of the children’s home were built by the Ramakrishna Mission
  6. The Murugan Temple in London High Gate Hill donated food.
  7. MIOT London was donated food
  8. DOTS, Tamil Orphan trust London were donated food and for the cultural events.
  9. Office furniture’s were donated by old students of Sivanantha Vidayalam
  10. Maintenance Support from Royal Netherlands
  11. Substantial donation assistance to the Juvenile Probation Department
  12. Food donation by SCOT
  13. Three-wheeler was donated by BUDS
  14. K.G. Ariyadasa was provided 2 wooden cupboards.

1999-2004

  1. Land purchased from YMHA.
  2. New land and rice mill was given by Advaro
  3. Ampara district Rehabilitation Association was donated A cultivator.
  4. UNICEF association was given sports equipment.
  5. Goddess Sri Kanaka Durgai Temple showed up to help continuously.
  6. The Colombo Lions Club provided school supplies.
  7. Photocopier Machine was donated by Swiss team Vimal Raj
  8. Rishikes Sarvamangala Ananda Ji provided food aid and blessings.

2005-2009

  1. Tsunami aid from the Rotary Club of Kandy
  2. Donations from SCOT, Kanaka Durgai Amman Temple and Muruganandan for Sagama Land
  3. Food aid from Ratnapala Therar.
  4. YMHA construction aid from Selvarupan and friends
  5. SKYROSE helps to the day classes (continuous assistance for 3 years)
  6. OPTIMA foundation Supported to elevate the cow farm.
  7. Help with childcare at Anna Kyler School in London
  8. London helping lanka helped to get furniture.

2010-2019

  8. Land donated and vacation trip offered by Sumathi Ashokumar.
  9. Land for children’s house acquired.
  10. 25th anniversary celebration.

2020-2024

  1. Corona emergency equipment supplied by YMHA for our children’s home.
  2. Permanent irrigation of Sagama land obtained ceremony for Government Agent Ampara.
  3. Additional land for the Children’s home was acquired by YMHA.
  4. Swarnam Jewellery contributed to renovate the children’s home shrine home
  5. The kitchen and dinning hall were renovated with funds from the Ministry of Hindu Culture.
  6. Vivekananda Memorial Day celebrated.
  7. Pearl Festival was celebrated.
